Heathlands 2020 Pending Exhibition
The heathlands rare natural habitat was a historical necessity for our ancestors to maintain so they could make bedding, medicines and fuel. Using fallen conifer branches hand-picked around site, Foraging was inspired by this history. The series of conifer nests make bedding for returning species.
The nests were constructed using a basket technique called coiling. The bark was soaked, stripped and moulded to create a bowl like shape and reinforced with wool stitches. All nests have been hand crafted and for this reason have slight differences.
